Below are a few ideas to connect with the wonderful ESL students who are coming to class on Wednesday night.
1. Prepare and serve “southern” style dishes for snack time.
2. Host a picnic for the students.
3. Greet people on Wednesday evenings.
4. Host a game day with refreshments on FBCD fields.
5. Help take care of Preschoolers on Wednesday (5:50-7:30).
First Baptist provides an opportunity for you to meet and learn to love people who do not speak “Southern English” through our ESL ministry. This past year, we touched the lives of 125 people born in twenty countries outside the USA through seven classes. ESL teachers give joyful testimony to strong friendships with their students. Please consider joining the ESL ministry team.
You do not need to speak another language since all classes use only English conversation. Teaching is supplemented with pictures and gestures with a focus on students hearing and speaking. ESL teacher training is available at a number of sites and the North American Mission Board issues a certificate of study when the 14.5 class hours are completed. A person responsible for collecting snacks from the kitchen and returning items is also needed.
If you are interested in registering for ESL classes, you can check out the ESL information page by clicking here.
