Who They Are:
We are refugees who escaped genocide. We fled from many war-torn countries – Sudan, Somalia, Burundi, Burma, Bhutan, and others. We all live in the Clarkston, GA area and each week we come together. While sewing, knitting, crocheting, and beading, we share our joys and our sorrows. Many of us have lost husbands, fathers, and children to war. We have endured great suffering, but we believe our lives have purpose and hope.
Purpose of Refugee Sewing Society:
The Refugee Sewing Society helps women find hope through creative arts and crafts. As we express ourselves through creative art, our self-esteem grows, our use of the English language becomes easier, our life in America makes more sense, and our problems are shared and resolved. Our dream is to provide income for our families in America and in our homeland.

DDM - Developmental Disabilities Ministries |

|
|
Developmental Disabilities Ministries Inc. (DDM) provides a viable means for Georgians with developmental disabilities to live in an environment that meets their spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual needs. Although most residents require individual assistance, with faith, determination and direction from a dedicated staff they overcome obstacles in a loving and supportive Christian group home or apartment environment. DDM has been providing care and training for men and women with mental retardation since 1981. This accredited, charitable, Christian organization has 15 group homes and 3 apartments around the state, including six in Metro Atlanta. In addition to its group homes, DDM also assists churches in starting special needs ministries and conducts an annual workshop for parents and churches. First Baptist Church Duluth has been very supportive of DDM by praying, giving and volunteering.
Volunteer Opportunities:
1. Home / yard maintenance projects at area group homes
2. Donation of paper products such as bathroom tissue, facial tissue, etc.
Prayer Requests:
Pray for the DDM houseparents - they love our residents and go far beyond the call of duty to care for them and provide opportunities for them to be a part of the community just like everyone else. It is a very demanding but rewarding job.
We pray that in spite of these very difficult economic times that this ministry will continue to be a Christian resource as it has been for the past 30 years for the ever-increasing numbers of people with special needs in our state.
