We are in the midst of a 40 day campaign called "Better Together." The sermon series, small group lessons, and joint devotional guide are all centered around the theme that everything we do.......we do better together. One of the things we do better together is that we reach out better together. The biblical example of this principle is the four friends who brought their paralytic pal to Jesus. This man could not have brought himself to Christ. Yet, his friends were undeterred by the obstacles that could have prevented this encounter. They were committed to see that their friend have an audience with the Savior.
Perhaps there are people in your life that will NEVER come to Christ on their own. They are waiting for a committed friend to bust through the barriers until they have an encounter with the Savior. First Baptist Church is going to provide an event for you to bring a friend to during our 40 day campaign. This event is called the "First Family Fish Fry." This fun filled evening is scheduled for Wednesday, October 12. Every guest you bring is FREE (Members will be asked to purchase tickets at the regular Wednesday night dinner prices). You can begin now to invite neighbors, work associates, and family members that you want to bring to Jesus.
Jesus called his disciples "fishers of men." This month we are casting the nets and being genuine disciples by fishing for friends that need Jesus. Plan now to bring a friend to the First Family Fish Fry. Your friend may thank you for all of eternity!

On August 21st, FBCD is honoring all our area educators as they head back to school for another year. We at FBCD realize the tremendous impact teachers and administrators have in the development of our next generation. Therefore, we covenant to pray diligently for public, private, and home school educators as you accept this lofty challenge for another academic year.
We live in the state’s largest school district. Gwinnett County Schools service 162,459 students in 77 elementary schools, 26 middle schools, 19 high schools, and 11 special schools. There are over 1700 new students in Gwinnett County and 3 new schools. We are proud to have many of these fine educators as members of our fellowship.
The Bible says in Proverbs to “teach a youth about the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Prov. 22:6, HCSB) These dedicated educators have committed themselves to pointing youth in the right direction. Therefore, when released to the world, they will find their intended target.
Teachers, Administrators, Home School Moms, School Assistants...you are being prayed for! You have an awesome task, but we know God will direct you and supply you with wisdom, strength, and encouragement. May God give you your best year ever!
Blessings,
Dr. Mark Hearn

This has been an eventful year in the life of FBC Duluth. At the beginning of 2011, I challenged our church to “Give More, Go More, and Grow More” than ever before. We began the year with a churchwide study of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. Over 200 families graduated from this 13 week study and have made steps towards financial freedom. Sunday School classes “stepped up” and gave over $12,000 toward our Mexico Mission Trip and we have already surpassed last year’s giving to the Great Commission Offering. We are beginning to “Give More!”
Last week 29 people from FBC Duluth returned from a one week mission venture to the Yucatan, Mexico. We have established a relationship with Georgia Baptist missionary Mauricio Menenses and Church Planting Pastor Leonardo Gil to establish a new work in the jungle village of Solforino. We are currently training a team of 12 to travel to Kakinada, India in November to establish house churches in that strategic port city. This month we met with Church Planter Ty Hauer and his family who plan to locate in Duluth, Minnesota to begin a Southern Baptist Church. We are beginning to “Go More!”
Now, to “Grow More!” Over the next few weeks I am going to challenge our church to establish 20 outreach Bible study classes. These classes can take place in homes during the week, in businesses before the workday, in coffee shops at lunch, or any venue where you can gather people. The goal is to involve 100 new people in bible study. The curriculum we will be using is Rick Warren’s “Better Together.” This is the dynamic follow-up to his N.Y. Times best selling book “The Purpose Driven Life.” The study is designed to create friendships and community. It is a great way to gather neighbors, build teamwork among employees, or solidify friendship ties. I am praying right now for 20 hosts. Would you open up your home? Would you gather a pre-work group of employees? Will you meet with some friends regularly at a Starbucks? I believe God has good things in store for us. The study begins September 18th, but we need to solidify places and leaders soon. Call me or Pastor Keith Murdock if you are interested.
Blessings,
Bro. Mark
