On one occasion someone asked me, “Pastor, what are you going to preach about?” Before, I could respond with a question, a witted eavesdropper answered, “I hope about 15 minutes!” For some people, a sermon is judged by its length.
In a pastor’s seminar, the leader asked, “What makes a great sermon?” One clergyman claimed, “You tell a few graveyard stories to get them crying, then you go to hollering.” For some people, a sermon is judged by its loudness.
However, it is not brevity nor bravado that makes a great sermon. It is breadth! It is the extent of the sermon’s reach. The greatest sermon ever preached is judged not by its length or loudness, but by its presenter, the Lord Jesus Christ. During the summer months (June through August), we will study Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. This sermon from our Savior covers the keys to happiness, how to make an impact, how to be on our best behavior, dealing with difficult people, decision making made easy, and many more critical subjects.
I hope you will plan to be here each week with an open mind to hear from the Master teacher. I am blessed to learn from Him!
See you at the Mountain!
