JOB DESCRIPTION
MINISTER OF MUSIC
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
DULUTH, GEORGIA
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:
The Minister of Music is responsible to the Pastor for planning, conducting, and evaluating the Church Music Ministry.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To direct the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive music program based on spiritual needs and program tasks.
2. To serve as chairman of the Church Music Council and Ex-Officio Head of the Church Music Committee so as to provide guidance and direction in matters of policy, calendar, and church emphases.
3. To lead the Music Committee and all music leaders; guide the music council in determining music objectives, goals, organizations, leadership personnel, facilities, finances, and administrative procedures.
4. To supervise all Church Music Ministry staff employees and to evaluate their progress and performance at the conclusion of each fiscal year by a written report to the Church Personnel Committee.
5. To assist the pastor in planning the congregational services of the church; be responsible for the selection of all music for worship or other special services such as weddings or funerals; to council families or family members or individuals in the selection of music suitable for the intended occasion. This music should incorporate appropriate theological references which are God-honoring.
6. To direct or conduct musical groups and congregational singing.
7. To work with the Choir Coordinator in the enlistment and training of all leaders for the Church Music Ministry. This shall be done in cooperation with the Church Nominating Committee.
8. To coordinate the performance schedules of music groups and individuals in the functions of the church.
9. To give direction to the music program plan for visitation and enlistment.
10. To supervise maintenance of music materials, supplies, musical instruments, and other music equipment in the church.
11. To attend at least two workshops for personal musical growth each year.
12. To cooperate with State, Association, and Convention leaders, promoting activities of the denomination and the church.
13. To coordinate the training and service of instrumentalists and vocalists in groups or as individuals.
14. To keep informed of denominational goals, traditions, publications, materials, policies, and plans for employing them as they relate to the local church and its welfare.
15. To aid the Music Committee in the preparation and submission of the music budget.
16. To administer the music ministry budget.
17. To be directly responsible to the Pastor and be available to all other staff members for the purpose of planning, coordinating, and implementing policies, and procedures.
18. To be strongly encouraged to take vacation leave and personal education courses of study whenever possible.
19. To serve as a member of the Church Council.
