JOB DESCRIPTION
MINISTER TO YOUTH
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
DULUTH, GEORGIA


PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

Leads in organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating a comprehensive youth program which reaches, teaches, and matures youth for Christ.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Exalt our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ demonstrating a Christ-like attitude in performing all work.

2. Enable the church to best reach its goal of effectively reaching and discipling youth for Jesus Christ by leading the youth committee and volunteer leaders in planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating a comprehensive education program. Ensure that programs are compatible with the criteria established for the education ministry of the church.

3. Assist in assimilating new youth converts and members by developing and maintaining efforts to place them in the mainstream of the church’s activities.

4. Ensure that volunteer educational leadership is enlisted to serve in the youth area by working with the nominating committee.

5. Ensure that quality educational/training opportunities exist for volunteer youth leadership on a continuing basis by providing assistance in the development and maintenance of such programs.

6. Provide direction to youth workers in accomplishing the church’s mission by leading the youth committee in developing long and short range educational plans.

7. Stay abreast of trends in youth ministry by attending conferences/workshops/seminars, networking with other professionals and reading current printed materials.

8. Establish and maintain an effective communication network between the youth ministry and the membership by addressing other age groups, providing publicity on the ministry, and working with the church council.

9. Effectively communicate the youth ministry to the community and membership by providing leadership in the publicity of the youth ministry through various methods.

10. Maintain and efficient and functional support staff by supervising staff as assigned and ensuring that all personnel actions are in keeping with the church’s employment practices.

11. Assist the church in the development and management of the operating budget by making budget recommendations to the youth committee for presentation to the Finance Committee, participating in the finance Committee meeting, and administrating the assigned areas of the budget.

12. Assist in maintaining good stewardship of resources by overseeing the procurement, control, maintenance, inventory and storage of equipment and supplies pertaining to the youth ministry.

13. Assist youth in spiritual/emotional growth by counseling individuals and making referrals as necessary.

14. Assist the church in reaching it’s goals by providing leadership to assigned committees

15. Help the church reach people for Christ by developing a youth outreach program and actively participating in the church’s outreach program.

16. Assist in coordinating, planning, and evaluating the work of the church by participating in staff meetings.

17. He/she shall serve as a member of the Church Council.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. As far as can be humanly discerned, the minister shall.

    A. Acknowledge Jesus Christ as his/her personal Lord and Savior.

    B. Depend fully on His wisdom, guidance and strength for his/her daily activities.

    C. Realize that his/her performance, dedication and attitude are under the scrutiny of both mature and weak Christians, as well as, unbelievers. He/she must ensure that his/her actions reflect honorably on Christ and the church.

2. Must be called by the Holy Spirit to serve as a Minister to Youth to serve in the capacity to which he/she is called.

3. Must be highly skilled in all aspects of youth ministry.

4. Must have the ability to plan, organize, direct and control the youth ministry of a metro church.

5. Must be skilled in personal evangelism.

6. Must have good written and oral communication skills and diplomacy.

7. Must have an in-depth ability to investigate, research and analyze data and make a sound decision based upon facts.

8. Must have a working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting.

9. Must have the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with church personnel, members and the general public.

10. Must be capable of administering church policies and procedures.

11. Must be able to manage stress.
